Dementia Care

At Boandik, we have a long and proud history of supporting people living with dementia.

We understand that while dementia brings challenges, it does not define the person. Our goal is to provide a safe, engaging environment where every resident is respected for their unique life experience and individuality.

Understanding Dementia

Dementia is an "umbrella term" used to describe a collection of symptoms and diseases that affect the brain. With over 120 types of dementia including Alzheimer’s Disease, Vascular Dementia, Lewy Body Dementia, and Frontotemporal Dementia; we recognise that every diagnosis and persons experience is different.

How dementia may affect daily life

Thinking & Memory Recalling information or following conversations
Daily Tasks The ability to perform routine activities independently
Movement & Judgement Navigating physical spaces and making decisions

Specialised support, tailored to each person

Because everyone’s journey is unique, we believe that specialised understanding and tailored support are essential to maintaining a high quality of life.

Our dedicated Memory Support Units are designed to be warm, secure, and easy to navigate. These spaces are staffed by skilled, compassionate professionals who are specifically trained in dementia care.

Our newly built specialised Dementia care unit at Boandik Kessal offers state-of-the-art design and consideration featuring the latest technology, natural light, clear wayfinding and sensory gardens to provide the highest standard of care for people living with dementia.

Led by our Dementia Care Specialist our team champions a "person-first" philosophy.
This means that we look beyond the disease to:

  • Focus on the person’s strengths, passions, and history rather than just their symptoms.
  • Respect choice by ensuring residents continue to have a voice in their daily lives and care.
  • Provide expert guidance by providing our staff with ongoing specialist training to stay at the forefront of dementia support and harm-minimisation strategies.
